Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

My son is seven Autistic, only patially verbal and is NOT afraid of any thing ,I recently have been made aware there is a black car driving around our neighborhood checking out our kids,Im am outside with him but if he is riding around the block I sometimes lose sight of him for a min, or two, Does anybody know a site that offers free social stories for things like this?Kids with Disabilities are such sitting ducks for abuse as they cant speak up for themselves, and Zachary has a necklace that states his condition, which can either be great or not so great depending on the person reading it...I would appreciate any advise greatly.

I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. If you google on Carol Gray and Social stories, you may find some of the kinds of resources you are looking for. Carol gray is the best expert on Social Sotries and designing. She has written severl books. Most importantly, her material can help you to design your own specific stories, the apply exactly to the situation you are dealing with. I have designed several stories for my son, using HIS vocabulary, not the words of a pre-canned story. We use computer generated drawings from some of the Carol Gray material, and also we take our digital camera and make actual pictures, as well.
You are right to be concerned. No matter how vigilant you are, our kids are FAST. We have to be able to give them some type of guidance for that 30 seconds they are out of our sight, because that is exactly the time when (by Murphy's Law) that any nearby predator, human or otherwise will find them. You are smart to worry.
I hope this info helps.
