Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.
SERIOUSLY considering moving to Canada

Hi Everyone,
I was born and raised in the good old USA, but I am seriously, seriously considering moving to Canada. I never thought I would see the day I would leave my own country, but in my opinion things are getting really bad over here. Seeing what is happening in Maryland with the FORCED vaccines at GUNPOINT and the fact that more and more school systems, medical insurance companies, etc are blaming autistic children for all their financial woes is really scaring me. It reminds me of when they started using the poor Jewish people as scapegoats, and we all know what happened to them. I have a feeling this is just the beginning, and I don't want myself or my family to be here for what I am afraid is coming next. Don't get me wrong, I love being an American, and I don't mean to offend or fire people up, but no one ever expected what happened in Maryland to happen either, but it did. I was wondering what kind of coverage this is for treament of autism there is in Canada, and what the school system is like there. I am not worried about the learing the language since they speak English, but I have no clue about the rest. Everything I have read on Canada seems to be very encouraging, and they really do seem to be the land of the FREE. I would appreciate any feedback you could give me. Thanks!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Canada wasn't as aware of autism and lack of support as America back when my son wads diagnosed in 97. Now I've heard that our support is BETTER. It's huge here now and our government takes cares of us. Sure if you want to get your own services you can out of your pocket but if not it's a long wait list like anywhere because it's booming, more and more kids are being diagnosed.
We have centre's which help for kids and workshops for parents. I attend them and it helps me ALOT. The school system here is great and many teachers are being educated. It was just made a law that all EA teachers need to go through a ABA training. It won't come into play for awhile but it's awesome.
I love Canada and we have a great support system. Mostly it's pricey and long waits unless you go private, but we're excellent in helping autistic people.
That said, I waited 4 mos for a diagnosis from a neurologist and 6 mos after that for the psych test thru the Hosp. That does the free eval. And then 3 years wait for subsidized IBI services thru the GOvt. 6 months to find a supervising Psychologist with exper. with Autism to supervise the IBI pgm as is required by Govt. and only found the therapist because my neighbour used them - shortage on qualified and "approved" therapists. At a cost of over $3500 per month only part of it is subsidized by govt. That's why hubby works around the clock. - Still want to move here?
We receive a diability credit, free pullups/diapers, travel/meal expenses to appointments more than one hour away. All of these services are free because we have a national health care system. I am also going to be put a fence around my back yard which child special services will fund a portion of.
Whenever I think of something else I need help with I just ask Nathan's case worker and she is great at looking into it.
