Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.
Playing with Liquid Mercury

When I was about 8 and my older brother 10, my father brought home a vial of liquid mercury from his job as an Aeronautical Engineer.
He gave it to my brother & me to play with. He told us it was poison, so we should not eat it.
I know I spent several hours playing with it, and my brother may have played with it much longer, as he probably had a longer attention span for that sort of thing.
Now, I have mild Asperger traits, and my brother has had the full-blown Syndrome, obviously since his teen years.
Is there any possibility that our spending hours holding and inhaling that, might have poisoned us, to some extent? What do you think?

I have a friend who is an optometrist and her husband is an anesthesiologist. She had a thermometer in her mouth and it broke. She accidentally swallowed the mercury. She ended up getting cancer of the thyroid twice. Shes okay now but she believes the mercury caused her cancer.

It's possible. My mom, when she was in school said mercury and it's properties was a unit within chemistry. All the students were allowed to play with the balls of mercury. Gloves, mask and glasses were used though.

I don't really know if that could cause you to have Autism. I also remember playing with mercury from a broken thermometer when I was little. I remember rolling it in my fingers for a long while. Although my son has Autism I am typical.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
