Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.
Peanut/food Allergies Anyone???

I am really annoyed with my school district. I know that many will not agree with me in regards to peanuts and or peanut allergy awarness and or prevention. My son was finaly mainstreamed for lunch and Sean has a peanut allergy amongst a handful of other food allergies. The point in putting Sean in the lunchroom was for him to be sitting with his mainstreaming kindergarten class and to observe his peers and hopefully join in with them. Problem is, is that our school does not practice no peanut products allowed in the school. So that means that Sean is sitting with all of the allergy aware peanut kids at a table away from there peers with a big sign on it that says PEANUT FREE TABLE. Now, to be this is segregation.
I emailed the Principal and asked that he might consider making our school peanut free. Well as you would guess he basically said that he would bring it to the attention of the superintendant. He then told me that Sean could pick a few of his classmates and friends to sit with him. Well the biggest problem with that is Sean could give a shit if he sat by anyone that's why he is on the autistic spectrum. Sean was supposed to sit with his peers for peer modeling, next problem is that Sean is not conversational so for him to ask someone to sit with him at the odd table and not converse is not going to happen.
Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Thanks to you all.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
we do not have a peanut free school either, but the children who do have the allergy are not sitting NEXT to someone who is eatting peanut butter jelly etc.
They sit at the OTHER end of the SAME table.
No sign just AWARE staff.
What they are doing at ur school would piss me off.
ur child is already battling his life, he is to be mainstreamed then they must main stream him.
Putting them at a table like that is crazy.. it is not the less restictive!
Big, big, big issue right now with the school board!!!!!
Join an anaphylaxsis group, they should be able to guide you. It can be seen as a human rights issue. Contact them too.
Our princp and trustee are corrupt and are no help either.
Nut and egg proteins are crossed in vax. Anaphylaxis groups believe it was caused by...you know....
The princp and trustee said, "aren't there special schools for kids like yours, no, then why don't you try homeschooling" Yep! the trustee said that to an alaphylatic mom! can you beleieve it?! Don't expect much different. The policy must be made at board level.
Teachers education
lunch room personel education
food company that supplies lunch- can no longer cook or make food with nuts, peannuts
education on the epi shot
education with my son
now he has had five exposures in elementry school- none of which resulted in er room trips- because they were educated and knew right away what to do
So this year he moves onto the middle school- I started in April of last year educating his new teachers ect. Principle was not taking it seriously so I went right to his boss- now he is
12 year old has been in school two months and has already had an exposure- a classmate passing out candy and was kind enough to include him- ( PEANUT M M) his friend sitting next to him screamed dont eat that- he had taken a lick---so now I have educated him better- we wants to fit in but this is life threatening-----
Anyway this year also my 5 year old daughter started school----but the school knows what to do- is she going to have expousers YES but we can lessen them- teachers say hardest thing is the other parents still dont follow the rules- just going to keep trying to educate people.
Sorry I went on and on
Hang in there disabitity act says they must arrange reasonable accomendations---tell them
