Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

I know you have all had some seriously bad days, but I am sitting here with a vodka after the WORST 3 hours EVER!
First my Autistic 13 year old had a meltdown at school. Last period, nobody knows what set him off, but he was throwing things around the metal work workshop (not good!) and when he was removed he kept charging and banging his head against a metal door (not good!!). When I got there he was being physically restrained by 2 teachers (both trained) to stop him hurting himself. Half an hour getting him calmed down and letting the tranquilisers kick in and we head home.
MEANWHILE my 11 year old son has come home from school and occupied himself by LIGHTING A FIRE IN THE BACK PATIO!!!!!!! I kid you not! I came home to a fire truck, my parents in law, 3 police constables and 2 detectives from the child protection unit!!!!! Hence the vodka!!!!!
AAARRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!! I know you guys can't really help me, and there is NO advice for dealing with this! I just need to vent!!!!!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
and don't worry, this too shall pass! Wish I had a vodka about now!!!!!
I too had CPS called by Oli's principal because he refused to go to her school and would not get dressed and I took him in a blanket to class. It worked for 6 months, but then this lady got vindictive when I complained that Oli's needs were not being met. The CPS man said he understood and that ASD kids act up all the time and he was satisfied with a short explaination, and case was closed. None the less I was really upset, andi can understand how you must feel, although I can't imagine how intense it must be. I think that stuff like this all comes at once so we can become stronger in the end>
1. In science (his favourite subject) he realised that the design he'd been working on for a week for his boat project wasn't going to work and he would have to start all over again.
2. Maths (which he is gifted in) was so boring, it was actually insulting. He's been moved to a new class recently because of issues with a few members of his old class, and the new teacher does not extend him in maths. They were doing tally marks - this is a kid who plays with algebraic equations and he was being forced to do tally marks.
3. At morning tea a particular girl who has a bit of a crush on him kept sitting next to him, even though he kept moving and asking her not to.
4. When he got to shop class, his regular teacher was absent and there was a substitute that he doesn't particularly like.
And finally the trigger... some kids in the class blamed him for something he didn't do. Pretty small in the end, but it was the combination of the rest of the day that did it. I'm surprised he lasted that long!!!
How are you feeling today? Hope the meds are adjusted better. Have you considered exercise, specifically yoga to get your mind in a better state. I know it really helps me.
Worst part was, I get home to all these detectives etc and I'm getting Jordan out of the car and he looks like he's been doing meth or something! Exhausted from the meltdown + drugged up to the eyeballs!
