Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.
Whatever kind of class he's in, ask for a more specialized class.
Like, if he's in a regular class with just Speech help, ask for a Special Day Class for Communicatively Impaired students, taught by a Speech & Language specialist. Ask at the upcoming IEP with the Speech specialist!
Call the Speech supervisor & tell the person IN ADVANCE that you will be asking for a more restrictive class environment, as your son is making no progress in his current one.
Then pursue it & persevere!
If they ask if you want a complete Special Ed evaluation for him, say "Yes!"
If he's in RSP, ask for a Special Day Class.
If he's mainstreamed, ask for a personal aide to help him. If he's got all that, ask for a Non-Public School placement.
Keep asking until his education is right for his needs!
Im sorry to read about the difficulty your sons having it can be so so hard!
