Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

I am new to this site. I have a 10 year old son diagnosed with Autism at age 7. My younger son is not Autistic. My younger son was struggling academically at school. We requested testing, and started with an ADHD screening. Decided to medicate and this year has improved academically. However, the school district had already begun the full assessment to look for a learning diability. At the IEP they diagnosed him with Autism, based on what I feel are small insignificant events, a few categories rated poorly by last year's teacher. I am a teacher and my husband is a special ed teacher. I am shocked at this diagnosis becuase it is completely inaccurate. Many of my older son's doctor's etc. have said no way. I have never run across my situation before in education where a child is diagnosed and the parents are refusing the diagnosis and wanting a non-autisitc diagnosis. I am desperate for someone who has a similar situation or information that they would be willing to share.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
