Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

Well Sean has been holding in his urine for a very long time during the day. He wakes up around 6:00am dry and I put him in the bathroom like 4 times before he has to leave at 8:30am he will not pee for me. Well, I thought that he would go when he got to school. Today I found out at our conference that he was not urinating until 2:30pm and staying dry all day. He pees on the toilet in school at 2:30pm - had to say it again. That means that he is holding in his urine for like 18 1/2 hours. He pees on the toilet at 8:00pm before bed and then doesn't go again until 2:30pm. I don't even know what to say or do. The teacher today wrote me a note and said that she wouldn't give him snack until he went pee - Well he wouldn't go pee and so he got no snack. Now I don't agree with that either. Sean will battle until the end he really could give a shit about snack, but would rather win the battle. I wrote her tonight and suggested that I send in a couple of cans of coke and told her to use a little soda as a reward for peeing in the toilet but not to punish him with not giving him his snack. Anyway, any suggestions as to what I should do with my little guy? Thanks Denise

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I could never use food as a punishment! How cruel! It is reccommended that all children have 3 meals and at least 2 snacks per day! She was not giving out candy, just a regular snack, hell no! I'm sick of these teachers' who work with the younger kido's, They just think they can do just what they want with our kids! So Denise, if he didn't pee for you at home, was able to go and tell his teacher you denied him snack, she would call CPS!!!!!!! This is just an example, believe me been through similar situations when he was smaller & could not talk. Alex holds his BM until he gets home, them he runs for r/r!!!! H e won't let anyone else help him wipe. So wonder how she feels to battle with a child , still lose, and know he had to watch others eat snack in front of him? How do some people lay their heads down at night??????
Her saying he could not have snack until he went the bathroom Nope not ok w. me either. if our kids do not have to go they dont have to go! We at least have them try and thats usally all it takes. I say fluids!
I agree stevensmom, you work as an aide, and I did prior as well, If we saw a child not urinating, we'd offer more fluids!!!!!! Denise, did she even ask you if he had been doing this during the holidays??? Alex just went back to school Mon. and was out all week, I know as mom & experience, we look at everything physical first, then enviromental, medications, .... a process of elimanation, he just started this, why would she autimatically assume it was behavior by choice related????
