High Functioning Autism questions for teens/adults

deleted_user
My son was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism (he is just going to be 3). I want to know if there are any other teens or adults who knew they had High functioning Autism and can answer some questions for me. Did you go to a regular school? Do you still require speech/ Language or social help? What kind of help did you receive? Did you have a hard time fitting in? Or did you not think you were any different? Also, were you able to understand jokes told to you? I am just asking as a concerned mother who would like to know.

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
Did you son have a hard time in school with behavior? Did he have a hard time understanding instructions in the classroom and following instrusctions? I appreciate any thing you can share.
My son talks a lot. He has good speech but he has trouble with questions. He doesn't seem to know someone is asking him something and that he needs to respond. He just learned to tell us his name when asked. He has chunks of speech but they say it is a lot of scripted learned speech. He uses it properly though and can ask for things he wants. He just started to understand what was being said to him a little more in the last few months and he can now follow simple directions (but he has started to be non-compliant) and that really has kept him from moving forward with speech. He mostly runs (escapes) the speech person and cries a lot or screams if he can't get his way now. I feel we have a set back right now.
