Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

I just read this in Woman's Day (dated Nov 13, 2007 - I know I double checked the date) and thought I'd pass it along!
A federal advisory panel of environment health experts recently evaluated 500 animal studies involving exposure to BPA, a chemical found in some plastic baby bottles and sippy cups. The worry is that when bottles/cups are heated or washed repeatedly the BPA can leak into the drink. While of course the experts say there is no strong evidence of health hazards for the general public they did express "some concern" that exposure to BPA may alter the NEUROLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN!!!
What's recommended:
1) obviously replace bottles/cups with any signs of cracks, scratches or discoloration.
2) toss the BPA containing bottles (which are hard and clear). Instead use glass bottles, those made from polypropylene (which look cloudy) or polyamide (in Born Free bottles).
Has anyone heard of this being connected with causing autism????

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
It's hard, though, because everything they recommend to deter "mouthing" behaviors is plastic, so what's worse, you know? The mouthing or the possible toxins leeching from the plastics??? I feel like it's one step forward, two steps back...
