Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

Good morning everyone,
I just found out this week that for those of us with Autistic/Asperger's kids (in Canada) there is a Child Disability Tax Credit that you can claim. You have to get your child's doc to sign a bunch of papers and then the papers are sent to Revenue Canada. Once there, they do some mathematical calculations to see how much you qualify for. (dependant on income level) Considering how much we spend on our GFG's, this will definitely help. After all, how many times has your child broken or wrecked something that you had to replace? Anyways, I thought I would share this as they don't always tell you this stuff. I hope everyone is having a fabulous day!

It's been the same in the UK for more that a decade. We are from Scotland ...moved to the US 8 years ago but when Max was initially diagnosed we filled out reams of paperwork sent it to the Social Security and 9 years ago were awarded 500 pounds ( $1000) a month as assistance! This is for all Special Ed kids not just Autism. Time the US caught up huh?????

Oh, and I almost forgot. The best part of the benefit is that you can go back for the past ten years. I agree Maxiesmom... the US does need to play catch up and it may be for more than just Autism/Asperger's. Anyways, it wouldn't hurt to check it out.

My sons just started receiving this credit this spring and he has not formally been diagnosed but has many delays. The doctors fill out the form relating to their speech, self-help, cognitive abilities, etc. I also never knew about such a thing. In Canada, this credit is just added onto our normal monthly child credit we recieve based on income.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
