Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

My son was diagnosed PPD from birth(not regressive) has had no problems with diarrhea, constipation, ear infections and eats well. He eats a varied diet and seems to have no problem with any foods. Our pediatrician and a DAN doctor both feel he does not need the diet. I was just wondering what kind of success people have had, if their children were regressive and if they showed trouble with foods and digestive before the diet. I don't want to "fix" anything that is not broken when we are working on so many other things. Thanks for your responses.

lisa lewis's book special diets for special kids is great.
your local health food store should have plenty of gfcf things in stock. your local supermarket may also carry some gfcf items much to your surprise.
my son started the diet when he was five, he will be eight this october. the diet works great for us. it was hard to start (mostly me not wanting to clean out my pantry and restocking it with more costly items) and the first week he ate very little but now he is fully aware of what he is and isnt allowed to eat.
good luck!
