Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

Ok so , I have a question. Cameron is a very picky eater and he has major sensory issues. Soooo he only eats chicken nuggets, pizza, mac and cheese(velveeta only), cereal, pancakes, lunchables, and thats about it.
I get those things for him, and if I try something else, he refuses to eat it. My mom says well if hes hungry enough he will eat it. But ok... that works with typical children, but with autism they sometimes have anger or tantrum issues and his doctor says not to let him get too hungry or that can be a cause of an outburst. So far that has helped a lot. My question is... I dont listen to my mom. I make what he likes because it lessens the fits, and makes life simpler to live. Should I force him to eat other things? Or should I just let that go and give him what I know he'll eat? He doesnt eat very nutritious things so I give him carnation breakfast drinks in the mornings and that helps a lot.
Anyway, just a question. Thanks guys

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
My sister & I both give our ASD boys what they will eat (real food, not candy) & offer what they wont. Weve both learned that we cant force our boys to eat stuff. But they do eventually (it may be months) taste the new stuff that everybody else eats.
We have them eat with us so they can see that we have the new item, put a bit on their plate (or an additional nearby plate if theyre extra fussy) & hope.
