Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

I wanted to share this with all of you.
I'd like you to remember this throughout your journey.
"If i may suggest the way to word what your son has is to explain that he can do what ever he puts his mind to and that he is not disabled. look at it as a challenge. in my mind a disability means you cant do things challenge means you can do all things are possible"
Those are the words of a 34 years old autistic man whom is married, has a child and owns his own home.
This angel I was blessed to meet name is Dan.
I met Dan 2 weeks ago at an adult panel at the autism center and we clicked and have been becoming friends through e-mails and this man has no idea how much he saved my soul.
I was bummed all week cause on Tuesday I went to an ASD parent group and felt out of place. The parents seemed to always use the words "save, heal, normal" and it was driving me nuts. I mean gos at least they're not dying. All the parents went on about all these "expensive" doctors they hire for this and that and I felt worthless and a failure to my son for never to be able to afford that help and all I had to offer him all these years that got him to break through was my support, love, acceptance, patience and time. So Dan wrote a long e-mail saying that what I've done and doing is what my baby loves and needs and no doctor will ever provide that.
God bless Dan and I'm thankful for meeting him everyday.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
lisa, i have been following you here, you are on the right track, keep doing what your doing, loving your son, its working!
and thank you
My daughter has three published poems. She wrote a book about horses, unpublished, when she was 12. She graduated high school with a 4.0 GPA and is on the National Honor roll for 2006. She has a boyfriend she has been with for three years. She is now in collage and working on her AA. She is smart and funny and sweet. Why would ANYONE want to change or "fix" that?
