Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

Hello all,
I posted a while back about my son Paul who is 2 1/2. He has some characterstics of autism (told to me by a doctor). My problem is everyone things I am crazy. This includes his teachers, his early interventionist, and some family members. Why do people not agree with the doctors?

Why don't you get a second opinion? What are the signs that the dr. saw? What signs do you see? Denise

It took my son the age of three to get diagnosed. You need to immediatly get an appointment with a neurological doctor to do the evaluation. My son had speech at two and lost 9 words into six months of it.Then they suggested the nerologist.I would make an appointment now to add some learning time for you.If hes not joining two words, pulling you by the hand, not responding to name, lining things up,scared of loud noises, lacks imaginitive play, plays by himself when other kids are around, loves watching the same movie over and over and likes watching the credits at the end. Those are fed flags. Also problems sleeping and extremly picky eater.I wouldnt wait for any speech I would request the evaluation to find out for sure.If your son shows like six of these symptoms it could very well be autism. One other one is hand flapping. If it is he is going to most likely be a visual learner, so you will need to look into pec cards. They are pictures of everything laminated to teach communication and to talk. They learn words better with pictures. He would do a lot better if you could find out now.Any questions you can ask me hon.

Actually that's a switch, usually it's the doc who does not relate and the EI people see it as well as family. What are the signs the doc recognized? Is it consistant to what you see? Do you have funds to go to a specialist? If not You are seeing EI? When he is 3 the school is going to evaluate by law they are required. You need to state all the spectrum idosycracies he has and let them know you are concerned. It is better safe than sorry you neglected to get him help. Intervention never hurt anyone. Good Luck

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
