Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

My son DJ has Asperger's Syndrome and he is in the 3rd grade and he is having a hard time with violence, choosing the right choices, knowing how to control his behavior in school and social interactions. His school is wanting to put him back on medications but my husband and I really don't want to put him back on medications. We are at witsends with trying to work with the school system and trying to keep him a child without putting him on medications. I would like to talk to other parents of children or persons who have AS and has dealt with this or is dealing with this also.
Thanks,
Tracy

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
or : mom he needs his meds elvuated , he's too disruptive, maybe it's time for an increase , ya know they need that some times?" Uh...... duh... I am his mother! I feel ya, it is difficult! Has he been on many Med's in the past? What was his experience? does he have aggresive behaviors in the home? how do you and your family handle these situations in the home? sorry just trying to help and well, each child is different so I guess need info.
There's quite a few cases of teachers saying that cause let's face it... "it's work" and they just want in there and do their thing smoothly and get out. If you don't want to give meds or feel they're on too much or they don't want it then overview the situation. Is his aggression a threat to himself or others? if so then have him on but don't over do it cause they learn as they get older how to handle it.
My son has ASD but I know a man with aspergers and he's amazing....
drives, married, a kid, works a good job, went to university and owns a house. growing up they thought he wouldn't be able to be on his own never less get all these. He says he really "got it" and clued in the last 10 yrs and he's 34 now so yea 24 is a long way so work with him and be his advocate and fight for what you're uneasy about or against. I myself am against meds unless they're suicidal or capable of endangering others.
