Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

Description:
Monday, December 10, 2007- The DFW Center for Autism will be hosting State Representative Vicki Truitt. State Representative Truitt will be discussing H.B. 1919, a bill to amend the state insurance code to require some health plans to cover autism-related services for children older than 2 and younger than 6 years old. The new law took effect September 1, 2007 and spells out what kinds of autism-related services must be covered, including evaluation and assessment services; applied behavior analysis; behavior training and behavior management; speech therapy; occupational therapy; physical therapy; and medications and nutritional supplements "used to address symptoms of autism spectrum disorder."

Tonight I go to this lecture and will post some notes tomorrow for those in Texas. I know some have no faith in it...but it's good to stay aware and observe whats happening....so we can each make our decisions from what we see and hear. I know many parents are too busy to be able to get out and be apart of it all....too busy at home so it's good if some one else can share what's going on at least. I remain hopeful for others! I've requested she address info on the physical therapy...hoping we could squeeze some Yoga into that, so they would be more willing to teach it at centers, etc...

Well, we are are the final games before the Super bowl in three weeks. Conference games are worth 6 points I believe with 6 points for exact total points for both teams. I believe Bugsbunny hit 30 points total for the Bills-Ravens game and got the extra 4 points (congrats to you Bugs). Catching up now is not going to be easy but that total points could be a game changer. So Kiddies, here...

IF TREATMENT IS ALREADY IN PROGRESS BEFORE AGE 6 AND CONTINUED TREATMENT IS RECOMENDED, WILL THIS (HB1919) COVER TREATMENT AFTER OUR CHILD'S 6TH BIRTHDAY
response:
Insurance code sec. 1355.015, as added by HB 1919, states that "if an enrollee who is being treated for Autism spectrum disorder becomes six years of age or older and continues to need treatment, this subsection does not preclude coverage of treatment and services..." This means that the statutory requirement to provide coverage to children older than two years and younger than six years becomes optional after age of six years.
