Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

Wow, 6 years I keep repeating over and over.
6 years ago today October 17th 2001 I found out my 3 year and 3 month old baby boy is autistic and my world crumbled.
6 years ago our journey into this new world I never known happened and god only knows how scared I was. I was 20 alone and scared. Not a clue in the world on what to do and what to expect.
People ask me all the time, "how you do it?" and honestly I don't have an answer. I just do what I've done all this time and it's like breathing.
I just wanted to post this cause you guys are the only people in this autism world I'm connected to.
For all the parents or people who've lived with autism for years, you guys can relate. Parent's and people just freshly finding out, hang tight the light is there for you. It's gonna take longer to get there and obstacles to overcome and go through, but in the end..... The smile your child gives you makes this pain that never goes away disappear for just a moment and unlike most, the moment we grasp and treasure for as long as we can.
HOPE. The word we all hang on to for strength and patience during our walk through this special world that we've been blessed and chosen for.
As I look at my baby now, talking and doing things that surprise me everyday. That makes me stronger. But the look in his eyes and that smile is what keeps my heart ticking.
These babies are angels, mild to severe and nobody else in this world will understand our hopes, fear, sadness and love this disorder has made us more aware of. Our eyes opened and our minds grew and only we can understand this special world that nobody else can see.
I love this song and always start balling and dedicated it to my son. It's a beautiful song I wanna share with all you for all our babies.....
Child Of Mine
By Carole King
Although you see the world different than me
Sometimes I can touch upon the wonders that you see
All the new colors and pictures you've designed
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine
Child of mine, child of mine
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine
You don't need direction, you know which way to go
And I don't want to hold you back, I just want to watch you grow
You're the one who taught me you don't have to look behind
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine
Child of mine, child of mine
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine
Nobody's gonna kill your dreams
Or tell you how to live your life
There'll always be people to make it hard for a while
But you'll change their heads when they see you smile
The times you were born in may not have been the best
But you can make the times to come better than the rest
I know you will be honest if you can't always be kind
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine
Child of mine, child of mine,
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine
Child of mine, child of mine
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

This is beautiful, Lisa. I am also amazed by outsiders who ask "how do you do it?" They have no clue. You just have to take it day by day and that's it. Yesterday morning, my Noah watched one of his favorite music videos and, for the first time, named off the objects he recognized on tv. I was ecstatic. Victories like this keep me going!

That was very touching. How I feel as well. You are right the only people who know how we feel are others in the same situation. Hugs Denise

Thank you Lisa. You are a great inspiration for those of us with little ones!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
