Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

on my last post I got alot of good advice on getting financial help for my son. Now I was wondering if anyone knows how much SSI will pay. I live in TN, there are five people in our family and we only make around 2200.00/ month and thats with me working a second job. If I quit my night job so I could be home with Jarred after school we would make around 350-500 less per month. I am just trying to get a general idea so I know if I will be able to afford his treatments and to be at home with the kids. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
My son is 11 and we have not receieved any SSI or respite from the state, waiting list ya know...
anyways just call your advocate or go in the SSi office and you shall find out! I really hope it works for you!!!
Based on my interpretation of the reams of paper I received (I could be wrong) the formula is roughly **your monthly income minus $311 for each ineligible child & $934 for each parent, half of that figure is what you should have available for your disabled child. If the number is less than $623 you get the difference.**
Im sure the formula is much more complicated than that, it is the Government, but that should give you an idea. They also have limits on your assets that figure in there somewhere. One car & one home dont count.
There's no way of knowing how much money you will get because it depends on your monthly income, and if every month is different, then so are your payments. Also, every state is different.
There are only 3 people in our family.
Just this last week they reported that he "got married" in April and should repay them $7,000. Of course, it's a mistake. But, in the meantime, they just stop his payments in their tracks.
Too much hassle. From what I can tell, even though she needs the money from the SSI to take care of him, and get him Medicaid, she is often stressed beyond belief because of all of the stupidity.
I think they just keep making "mistakes" so that they can keep their jobs "fixing" them.
She's even talked to her congressman who was some help. But, after awhile, I think he thinks she is a lunatic. She's not. I've seen it for myself and it's quite unbelievable.
Maybe what they really want is for everybody to just go away!!! : (

I live in Kentucky, I don't know if this really helps or not, each state is different. I would go ahead and try. The worst that can happen is they say no. Being the parent of an autistic child is about 3 jobs anyway. Good luck! I hope it works out for you!
