Asthma is a disease of the human respiratory system where the airways narrow, often in response to a "trigger" such as exposure to an allergen, cold air, exercise, or emotional stress. This airway narrowing causes symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, which respond to bronchodilators.
Steroids make people gain weight by increasing appetite and also allowing the retention of fluid. Many will have what is commonly called a puffed up "moon face" as is typically seen in those who must take large amounts of steroids as part of chemotherapy. Patients usually loose the weight after discontinuing the use of steroids, if this is possible. While on steroids though, the weight will remain as part of the process.
I'm still on steroids, only the inhaled type, but am off of the oral steroids (pills). I can't stand myself at this weight. :-(
