Asthma Support Group
Asthma is a disease of the human respiratory system where the airways narrow, often in response to a "trigger" such as exposure to an allergen, cold air, exercise, or emotional stress. This airway narrowing causes symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, which respond to bronchodilators.

i wanted to ask a question that i have been dying to work out, my mum says that i am unfit when i walk up the steps or do anything like that and get out of breath but i think it is my asthma
is it either
1, part and part asthma and unfitness together making it had to do daily tasks
2, asthma and i should us my inhailer more often
3, unfit and need to stop being lazy
i just dont know because i go to a house which is up a little path and sometimes i can walk up it and have to sit down and get my breath back and other times its not bad at all so i just think that has more to do with asthma
is there a way to tell the difference because i really cant

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
As far as know what part is the asthma and what part is the lack of fitness, do this: climb up those stairs and get in touch what the problem is. Is it huffing and puffing and tightness in your chest (asthma) or are your muscles aching and feeling weak from the climb (weakness).
Does it really matter? Use your inhalers as prescribed and begin regular exercise. Start with doing some simple stretches and then go for short walks. Increase as you are able.
Just my opinion!

i get out of breath walking up hills at college but i am no where near out of shape and how bad it is depends on the weather a lot.
thanks for your help x
asthma is always lying about waiting to attack.Be ready by carrying an inhaler with you as I have been told by my doctor.
Be aware of the condition and stay prepared honey.
A peak flow measurement is a measurement of the amount of air you can exhale in a short burst...more or less. A peak flow meter is a simple plastic thing you exhale quickly into to understand how well your lungs are handling the air they use. When you exhale, a little plastic part moves to show where you are. You need to talk to your doc about deciding where your good, not so good, and bad peak flow zones are. Often times, your peak flow will alert you that you are getting into trouble before symptoms occur.
Don't get me wrong, being fit and healthy does help alot, but it won't get rid of your Asthma.
