Asthma Support Group
Asthma is a disease of the human respiratory system where the airways narrow, often in response to a "trigger" such as exposure to an allergen, cold air, exercise, or emotional stress. This airway narrowing causes symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, which respond to bronchodilators.

I have tried to build up my running ability by running frequently (3x/week) but I feel like I've hit a wall. I can't seem to run non-stop more than two miles without feeling like I'm going to pass out. I get really dizzy and I feel like my heart is going to pop out of my chest. When I stop to walk, the symptoms subside quickly, but return after about a minute of running again. Am I bound to this limit because of my asthma? I'm not trying to run a marathon (although that would be nice) but I'd like to be able to run a longer distance.

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
run slow - your object should be distance and lung capacity growth and not speed. Speed will come into play after about a year or two. Until then going fast will only stop you faster. At times you may feel as if someone could walk faster then you can running - this is normal. The slower pace is nothing to feel bad about. Try to run in the beginning at a 12.5 to 14 min mile.
The main difficulty is actually mental - so get distractions on board - an ipod, different scenery and running buddies that are also super slow help (human or canine).
Other tips - Take lots of vitamin C and use your inhaler 15 minutes before running. Also asthmatics must eat less saturated fat then most other people because saturated fat loves to mess around with your lungs.
