hello, im new to this group. im just here for advice maybe some clues.
i have a 15yr old son. hes been every diagnoses thats going these days. i feel like hes been misdiagnosed all these years. i made appointments for him to be checked for aspergers,
he went to his second appointment today.
this some of what lifes like with him..
he doesnt go to school. we have total school refusal here. we have to have a behavioral therapist to take him 3 days a week. when he was little we could pick him up and get him to school, now hes 6'2" tall and will literally fight us to stay home (he goes to a special ed school)
hes doesnt have a single friend, in fact the last sorta friend he had was in 4th grade i think because i was friends with the mom. doesnt seem to look for a friend, likes to be home with his 2 main interests, video games and watching tv. (he will watch the same movie over and over) doesnt look make friends ever. or even asks to go out to make friends
his eye contact isnt very good, he will talk to you but then look as if hes talking to the wall next to you etc.
he gets angry soo fast, theres no talking to him when he gets in that mood and his behavior is often terrible. brakes his things. seems to me he sometimes fears the littlest things, and gets upset at the weirdest things too.
and, if we are out at a store for example as soon as we get there hes wants to leave and go home. doesnt like to be out in social situations at all. will do this walk thats real fast way ahead of us. dont know why he has to do that when we are out.
im soo frustrated want so badly to help my son, just dont know whats up. hes been diagnosed-> adhd, bipolar, depressed, odd, each one of these was by a doctor, we have been to a few doctors, do you think maybe MY own diagnoses of aspergers seems right? anyway im having him checked i was my idea. no doctor ever suggested aspergers, dont you find that strange? i do.
thanks for listening, sorry soo long for my first time.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
My son is into trains big time, he would rather play by himself instead of his peers, wouldn't look you in the eyes when talking, very intellegent, loves to take things apart to see how they work. I give him knex to play with to help releave stress. Right now with the medication he is taking seems to help him focus in school and with his anxiety. This year has started off better than last year. I hope some of this is helpful and may answer any questions you might of had. Feel free to ask more.
so my only help is your comparative factor as a grownup old man.
In my case, I had no diagnosis at all when I was real young; I was 19 when I was admitted to general hospital for fibreglas poisoning (sculpture, I am artist), which shipped me to psychiatric hospital initially for 2 weeks, but remained there for 6 months. They thought I was schizophrenic. Poke around my pages and read, okay?
We started down the ADD path too, it seems kind of overlapping I think.
Just a week ago she broke about 6 candle holders because we turned off the TV on her - like your son, she can watch TV for hours and can watch movies over and over.
She has only one friend, and we have to really monitor her computer usage too because she will get "friends" on myspace that she can't seem to distinguish from real friends.
Well anyway, not sure if it's AS but it sounds awfully similar.
I don,t know how you can help you son because I think i will be in your situation when my son reaches 15 all I now is to be accepted and not be permenantly alone you need to be with people or teenages of an understanding nature to be able to blossom and live a near normal life as he can.
Visit my website, http://chat1autism.wetpaint.com/ Often times people will be diangosed with like 6 things...well hence the word Spectrum, Autism is a bunch of disorders in one.
