Hi...I am so upset an exhausted from trying to get someone to see my son (12 yrs old) for dental work. He needs three cavities filled and one extraction at this point. I have more details in my journal...but long story short...if we do get a dental appointment I want to have it be a successful one.
(I'll post this in AS group as well)
So last appointment, he got real scared and demanded that the dentist stop. The dentist got scared that my son was scared and kicked us out.
My son is sensory defensive. I try to prep the dentist as much as they are willing to listen. I can also bring my son sunglasses. Other than that I need some real help. My son says that he can not tolerate knowing that someone is about to cause him pain (the needle) and sit there and allow it. He honestly said that he would need to "have someone put a chain around his head to hold him in place" because that is the only way that he can see it working out that he can manage to sit through it.
He clearly feels out of control in this situation and really wants help too.
Does anyone give their kid medication or gas or ANYTHING you can think of that has helped??? How do I go about getting anything (drugs, gas)? The dentists here that take his insurance tell me they don't allow it. All advice is very welcome...thanks!!!

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
have you tried a large dose of valium for him about 1 hour before?
I can not afford anything that is not covered...I am currently struggling to get through my next 4 months of internships without getting paid just so that I can get my license in OTA and finally work and get paid. So this also means that I can not pick and choose who I get as a dentist.
I haven't tried valium. But from what you all said so far it sounds like it would be best to ask/beg his general practicioner into writing such a letter, praying that the dentist will agree and try to do all the work in one shot..or two.
I think I need to get creative here...maybe if that doesn't work out...I can take out a private student loan to pay for a dentist who IS willing to sedate him...or even contact my local AS support group and see if there is any funding available for this sort of thing....idk...but it is all worth a shot.
I was really feeling crushed by the situation...and so appreciate your help!
Thanks all!!!
