Hi i have a 5 yr old daughter that was just diagnosed with asperger's and my husband and i don't have any clue on how to deal with this syndrome, or what we could do to help her in anyway. I hope this doesn't sound really dumb or anything, but i was just wondering if someone could give me some advice on what to do for us to help her..Our daughter's name is Aurora, and she also had Adhd, and possible ODD. Sorry for being such a bother, but i need some advice!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
see if theres any local aspergers self help association
also your local library should have books on aspergers for the general reader, avoid medical textbooks
also much info re aspergers on the net
IMO aspergers sufferers are all much too afraid, so lots of love and attention will help
bad behaviour is usually caused by fear, IMO
Prep your child before the event.
"Now, we'll be going into your Sunday School class. There will be about 8 children. You'll sing for a few minutes. You can sing or not, but sit quietly if you don't sing. Then, they'll pray. Sit with your hands folded & pray with them. Then will be a lesson. You can talk about dinosaurs for a few minutes after the lesson, but that's all. Then I'll come and get you."
Do that at EVERY social occasion you go to. Explain EVERYTHING!
My 56-year-old brother with AS still asks me why no one explained to him that he should have asked for a new voter registration pamphlet when he moved. He doesn't know ANY BASIC INFO. about society unless it is explained to him!

Develop a FAMILY game of "Simon Says." Do it with all family members at different times, maybe just "out of the blue" sometimes.
That way, if your daughter does a behavior that's not appropriate, you can call out, "Simon Says!" and model the correct behavior. Everyone in the room needs to copy it.
So, if you're at dinner and she runs to the kitchen to get something & comes back, you or your husband could call out "Simon Says!". Then, he says, "Excuse me!!!" in a fun voice. You & your daughter copy, "Excuse me!!!" and walk to the kitchen & back, with him. That way, she learns the correct way to leave the table, but for her it's a game.
