MY son has a lot of the AS symptoms, he has seen a ped nero psycologist for eval twice now and will go for a third befor the next school term starts. His current DX is ADHD w/Conduct Disorder.
For the last school year and all of this school year he has been in an isolated school ment for kids that are a threat to the gen pop of main stream. He has excelled there and Has had really none of the behavioral symptoms show. He has a few things like his writting is poor, some poor social skills especialy with adults. He has Grandiose ideas of who he is. He is super focused on foot ball and cant see past it. Like we talked about a part time job to help pay for insurance for a car and he could only see getting a job with a football team... not likely at 16. He has speach problems (mostly mumbling now, but a long history of speach problems) He does avoide eye contact still.
Given the proper school enviroment (no homework low teacher student ratio and room for some mild agressive behavior) he has had no real issues in school. He seems to be more incontrol of things like rock throwing and sticks and such but still doesnt get why its wrong to do a lot of the things he has done in the past.
I am wondering if its possible to out grow something like AS. Conduct disorder only fits him partially, same with the ADHD. Aspergers fits him partially but things like major motor (sports) he really excells at. If he can focus he generally learns well but is very isolated in what he wants to learn... history science anything to do with Fires (fighting and making :( )
Any ideas in what to ask the nuro psyc when we go? It seems like its hard to make a list since his behaviors have been controled in a controled enviroment... (they metal detect the kids befor entering the class and their belongings are locked up when they dont need them.) I really want to make the most of our appointment... he wants to mainstream for highschool and I smell disaster ahead...
Any ideas?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
i have it and i am 218 years old
Good luck.

Ask for a complete, written list or report stating: diagnoses (DSM types) plus your son's behaviors that determined the doc to believe those diagnoses exist. Then keep the paper & copy it for all school psychologists, etc. & IEP's you attend. That will be helpful in determining appropriate behavioral & academic goals for him.
I agree that he may be doing well BECAUSE he is in the most appropriate, "Least Restrictive Environment" for him, NOW; that any change toward mainstreaming will be too much for him, unless an aide is provided. Push for an aide if they want him more mainstreamed! That will assure you he'll get the care he'll need, & offer a buffer against deteriorating behavior in the general ed. classroom!
You can change the way you are, habits etc...
But why would you want to. we are the gifted ones.
lol.... mmm....
I know what ever he sets his mind to he will be sucessful at it even if the goal changes a ton. And thats a-ok by me. I will make a list of the things you all have mentioned and I hadnt thought of an aide for class.
I just worry that his agressive side will come back if the kids say the wrong thing. He holds it in then bam.... ww3. that or he makes wonderful choice that others see as dangerous. and It usually ends up getting him a criminal record (like the running after a kid to show him the knife... the kid was scared Sh*tless and wouldnt stop. I dont blame the kid he lives in a scary world.) My son didnt see what was wrong with the picture and still waffles on the severity of it. I just really want to keep him safe until he learns the social skills to keep him out of jail. I could care less if he laughs when I scold him or refuses to look at you when you talk... just stay safe and out of jail where he doesnt really belong.
Ok enough ranting lol... any other helpful ideas very welcome of course

Why do sometimes fail to communicate? The hard truth is that I didn't try hard enough, not just in the moment but in a holistic manner. See it like the Tao: Have a WAY of doing things, a STANDARD of behavior and action and an honest knowledge of yourself and others right to peace and right to fault and the short time we have with each other.
....and typical of A/S I rambled off topic sort of...for me it seems as I've gotten older it's gotten worse. It bears deeper analysis though, other things are not equal: I tend to allow more BS into my life than I used to as I have grown to value companionship for its own sake. I have curbed much of my inclination to behave automatically and I've also had enough upheaval in my life to just let a lot slide although internally I still have the anxiety process "alarms" blaring. It's almost like that 2nd Chris Reeves Superman Movie where in order to be with Lois he not only gave up being "Super", he kind of became a putz. A/S people, we're single minded...Do you want to do great things? Do you want to have a family? Create music, art, whatever. I had this realization a long time ago that I've forgotten a re-remembered time after time: You can do ANYTHING, but you can't do EVERYTHING, so choose, succeed/fail/change-your-mind, choose again, whatever. You've got your threescore and 10, (thats 70) to live your life, maybe there's another, maybe not, work it out, find out what's important to you and go with it.
