I am kind of new to anxiety. I am currently taking Xanax extended release because my psych thought i might only need to be on meds short term. I feel like a million times better (i thought i was going crazy) however, i still have some general anxiety (much more liveable, but still there), so my psych. wants to start me on a ssri like lexapro for more long term. What is the difference between Xanax, ativan, etc and lexapro, etc. I know that the xanax family drugs are more addictive because they are tranquilizers versus mood stabilizers like the ssri's. So basically i know the "technical" differences, but what the pros and cons, benefits, differences, pitfalls of each. Thanks!
