I teach students who often ask me who is the best composer, songwriter, musician, artist, etc. I guess my answer disappoints them but I think that if you label a true artist good or best then you start a pecking order of who is good/best through who is bad/worst. I prefer to think of all artistic statements as just being, neither good nor bad, once they reach a certain level. I have favorites, but they change by my mood of who I want to listen to on any given day. It might seem radical but I try to see all artists of a competent level as just different sides of similar coins, it's all style choices and individuality of voices at a certain point. I have tried to take this concept into other things in life and see most people as neither good nor bad but just unique to themselves, the way they are is an expression of their individuality. Of course this is a work in progress for me when someone gets aggressively rude or insulting to me but it helps me in the abstract.
