At the end of November, I was experiencing anxiety (possibly a side effect of Cipro but I do have a history of anxiety and it was a stressful time) and my doctor gave me a prescription of Ativan .5 mg to be used as needed. I took one or sometimes only 1/2 of a pill for about one week and then discontinued with no problem.
Then around Christmas, I had a very stressful life event and also became sick with a sinus infection and asthma. I was also feeling very anxious so started to take the Ativan again as needed. I think I took 1/2 a pill (.25 mg) per day for about a week or so.
I have not taken any Ativan this weekend and felt great yesterday although today I do feel somewhat anxious and tired.
Is it possible to become dependent in such a short time period at such a low dose? I have periodically used Ativan in the past and never had any trouble stopping.
I do not want to become addicted to benzos due to the horror stories I have heard of benzo addiction.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

The dose you were taking is so incredibly low, you could take it for 5 years and just stop with no side effects. Honestly, .12 mg. (1/2 of .25 mg) is almost zero medication. People take 5 to 10 times this amount on a daily basis for years - these people need to stop gradually, but your body can never become dependant on such a low dose. I'm taking about 20 times this dose and have been for a very long time - its a very safe drug.

I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
