anyone get a lump in throat sensation and tightness in neck and throat?

deleted_user
Yes i get a lump in throat sensation...this is called Globus Hystericus. I have gotten pins and needles in the back of my head for some time...especially when my anxiety was at its worse. My doc says it is to do with the nerves being pinched while being extremely anxious.

On the left side of this page[under ads google]there was info on anxiety, can't remember site name, but there were many symptoms listed and lump in throat, tightness in neck, the pins and needles like ferner said, even feeling like band around head [chattypatty] was mentioned.Difficulty with breathing, numbness in hands and arms, aggitation etc.The list went on and on.If I see it again I will get back to you so you can check it out.

Yeah, definately get this. Like you're all choked up inside, what I really hate is the tightness around the neck.

Yes, I do feel the tightness in throat and neck.--most of the time. what I do is: when I sit there and do meditation and visualization, I will imagine a rising sun in the morning to shine beautiful lights with energy to my throat area. I will put my attention on my throat area, then think of nothing. Then the tension will gradually disappear by itself, and all my body tension start to become soft and calm down.

Mine was due to acid reflux because of anxiety. Protonix helped me. Sometimes an acid blocker helps. Or try over the counter gaviscon. It puts a foam barrier on the top of your stomach to keep acid from moving up. Only thing with this is if you eat after you take it...it diminishes the relief. HTH

my doc.said acid reflux also can make heart palps worse. i took prilosec for quite awhile. but on the down side these types of meds for reflux can cause heart palps in some people so what do we do?

I too get the lump in throat and feel that I can't swallow. I have a salava build up and feel like I choke on that. Does anyone else get this? I can't eat or drink during this period either.

I get this really bad. For me it is part anxiety and part acid reflux. Unfortunately, the two feed off each other. I take Protonix which helps the reflux but I can go for weeks not being able to eat solid foods as I feel like there is something in my throat.

Great thread. I've had this off and on since I was a child, and it can be highly unpleasant. Thanks for sharing some ideas about remedies!

I had it under periods of intense stress (globus hystericus). Two things can cause it - acid reflux and anxiety. Of course anxiety makes acid reflux worse so it's a bit of a chicken and egg and which comes first, it doesn't matter. Do you have any other symptoms of heartburn, i.e. discomfort or burning in chest if you lie on sofa after evening meal, hoarse voice in the morning etc. You could try a prescription for a proton pump inhibitor for one month, see if it helps, they are safe and effective medications and try and avoid heavy meals late at night. The throat muscles can tense up under stress just as neck and head muscles can. I found what helped was telling myself the lump was fascinating and adopting a curious attitude rather than fearful. Once I did this it had no power over me and it eventually disappeared. I mainly had it when there was a major life issue that I was not dealing with. Some people talk about it being a block in the throat chakra, i.e. something you need to communicate to somebody is blocking the energy there because it is stuck. When you deal with a difficult underlying issue stress diminishes a lot. Another theory is that it occurs due to chronic hyperventilation, breathing shallowly and rapidly due to anxiety. Bodyscan type relaxation CDs, yoga and exercise are all excellent for physical symptoms of stress. Good luck.

I have got it right now! My throat is dry, there is small lump at the back and i keep swallowing. This is what makes me gag sometimes. I find that if i carry a water bottle with me and some crisps and when i feel it getting bad, i drink some water and have a crisp which keeps my mouth busy.

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
