Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Hi! I am new to this group. I have had several different periods in my life in which I have had anxiety attacks - I say anxiety attacks because most of them are not full blown panic attacks. I have had a few full blown panic attacks, but they have always been linked to some sort of medication that I have taken.
I had issues with anxiety after the birth of my now almost 9 year old son. I had postpartum depression and a lot of anxiety with it, but I am not sure if the anxiety was related to the depression or the medication for the depression. After about a year, I finally got it all under control.
Now, I have been having headaches and the doctors have prescribed different meds for me to combat the headaches, but I believe that some of the meds are causing anxiety. I currently take Zoloft which I have been on since the bout of post partum depression that I had. I have tried (with the doctor's advice) to increase my Zoloft from 25mg to 50mg and I think it's making the anxiety worse. I am afraid to keep taking 50mg and I am afraid to go back to the 25mg.
So, that's where I am. Mornings are awful. I wake much earlier than normal (normally you need a canon to get me out of bed) and I always have a feeling of dread and panic - for the past week. Anxiety is a dark, terrifying and lonely place. You feel as though no one understands and no one can help. If they can help it may take days or weeks or months to find the right drug or the right combo of drugs to help you.
In the meantime you suffer. You wonder if you are going crazy and you wonder if you are ever going to get any better. Anxiety is painful and while I do know that millions of people suffer from anxiety every day, I still feel alone.
I am a stay at home mom and a student (classes are on hold for right now) I am studying pastoral ministries and I am very involved in my church. I have many friends and they are all praying for me. Prayer does work. God doesn't always answer your prayers the way you want Him to, but He does answer them. Right now I am just trying to figure out how I am going to use this experience to help others, because I believe that this is something that He wants me to do.
For right now, I am still suffering as many of you are and I am in a very lonely place.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
As for God, I believe He gave this wonderful world of anxiety to us for a reason. We may not ever know what that reason is but I know He has a purpose in it. At least on my good days-LOL. When you are in that lonely place it can feel like God has abandoned you, at least I have felt like that before, and then I feel guilty for feeling that way. Thank God for forgiveness!
I pray that you are feeling calm and peaceful very soon.
You are not alone- you will find many friends who are happy to help in anyway.
Blessings to you- Gee
I will tell you that I know first hand that also hormones come into play with all the chemistry that is related to anxiety. I don't know exactly how yet, but I keep researching it. The birth of your baby kicked your hormones into high gear to begin with. I suffered low anxiety most of my life, but once I hit menopause I was slammed to the wall with anxiety and panic attacks and although menopause is over (YAY!), the anxiety and panic attacks remain......... so somewhere along the way, it got confused and decided it liked me.
As for the Zoloft, when I was put on Zoloft it most DEFINITELY increased my anxiety............ BIG TIME! Out of all the anti-depressants, that was the one that caused the MOST anxiety.
The rest of 'em either caused other undesireable side effects or were like taking aspirin. Anti-depressants are not for me.
As your doctor to get you off that Zoloft......... go ahead and reduce yourself to 25 mg until you see him/her again. I don't believe in coming off of something cold turkey, but I'd at least take it upon myself (and have!) to reduce it.
