Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

First, let me explain my problems. Last year I started to experience problems with anxiety. At first, I didn't know what it was, and thought I had an inner ear infection or upper respiratory infection. Went to the doctor, I wasn't sick. He gave me Antivert for my dizziness, which I had a bad reaction to. Ended up in the ER Thanksgiving night feeling like my body was shaking apart and with such a terrible migraine (which I don't get) that it felt like the top of my head was going to blow off and go flying in the air. The following week, I had heart palpatations, and went to the ER again because my doctor wasn't in that day. No heart attack, went to the GP for a follow-up and he sent me to a cardiologist and neurologist. Had lots of tests, found out I have Mitral Valve Prolapse and the Neurologist told me I had "non-specific dysfunction of the inner ear." Anxiety is a problem in my mother's family for the women during perimenopause (Mom is one of four girls, they all had anxiety during this time as did her Mom).
Anyway, I go back to the Pdoc on Tuesday and am considering asking him about Klonopin because I need something that will keep me on a more even keel than Xanax (it only lasts 4-4.5 hours for me and when it is done, it is definitely done!).
Does Klonopin help with dizziness? (I know Xanax does, because the Neurologist told me it does). This is one of the major symptoms of my anxiety.
How long does it last for you? I have read 10-12 hours, and if so that would be heaven.
Currently I am on .25 mg of Xanax up to 3 times per day. What is the equivalent dosage of Klonopin?
Does it help with the tension headaches?
Does it make you tired? If it does, did you ever take Xanax, and did it make you tired? (Xanax does not make me tired, I get tired when it wears off).
Would you recommend Klonopin?
I have tried Buspar, Paxil, Zoloft and Lexapro. Had major problems with Paxil and Lexapro. Buspar helped with the anxiety, but caused severe dizziness. Zoloft helped with headaches, but nothing else.
Would appreciate any answers/advice you can give.
Thanks!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I was on .5mg of xanax 3x a day for 12 years 2 months ago they switched me right over to .5mg of klonopin 3x a day and it went smooth. No withdrawls and it worked well. My body was addicted to xanax and after 12 years built of a tolerance. I was getting 3-4 hours per dose. Since switching to klonopin I have been able to ween myself down to only taking it 2 times a day. So it gets me 12 hours per dose. If I get worse again I know I can add my third dose back. Klonopin has a much longer half life too so it is not out of your system as quick as xanax is. This could also help maintain control better then xanax.
If you are required daily doses of a benzo like I am since I can't take antidepressants I prefer klonopin. It does not work as fast as xanax. Xanax takes about 20 mintues to work and klonopin is 45 minutes to an hour.
As far as I read the doses of xanax and klonopin are the same. I could be wrong.
It may help a little bit with tention headaches. I get real bad migrains, and it doesn't help those.
But it has been a God send, otherwise.
I would most definitely recommend Klonopin, hands down.
Hope you get to feeling better real soon!
