When this happens i try get back in touch with reality, exercise is great cos you can feel your heart pumping so you physically can feel reality.
Give yourself a routine of nice things to do, set goals.
Derealization, I believe, is a primitive mechanism of the brain to protect itself. The double edged sword is that it can cause anxiety when initially experienced. What is happening is that your brain is disconnecting you from reality as a form of redirection, just like how magicians use redirection so that you are paying attention to something other than the trick that they are performing. When derealization hits me, it's usually before an episode of moderate to severe anxiety. The derealization distracts you from the episode, saving you the experience of extreme anxiety. In my case, at least.
I have chronic derealization, but have grown to accept it for what it is and honestly don't mind it about 80% of the time. In fact, what has helped me become OK with it is accepting it as a gift versus viewing it as a curse. As with all things anxiety, perception of events are key in dealing with them. For me, derealization is a chance to take a look at "reality" from a different perspective, a perspective that very few "normal" people ever have a chance to without mind altering chemicals.
It's key that you accept that you are not going crazy because you are having derealization, nor will derealization ever make you "crazy".
Exercise (vigorous) can REALLY help with anxiety. Eve just running in palce for as long as possible will release that negative energy. Replace the negative thoughts with positive thougsh, ANYTHING that makes you laugh hysterically or has in the past.
