It wasn't for me as I reacted badly and had quite nasty side-effects, although that doesn't mean it will for you.
Loads of people swear by it and say that it it gave them the strength to progress. Loads of research and studies show that apart from Prozac, Escitalopram is the most tolerable SSRI available.
Did they put you on 10mg?
There is a few posts already on here about it, but don't take too much notice of my one about a week ago.
Most people tolerate is very well. I'm just one of the few that it didn't help.
By the way...it takes quite a while for your body to build up on the drug before you start seeing any benefits.
My side effects were insomnia, loss of apetite and jaw clenching/teeth grinding and at that particular time, my mum was ill, so I needed sleep and food for the energy to look after her so my doc said to stop taking them after a week.
Hope all goes well for you and please keep us all updated.

my anxiety and depression are under control though I
feel spaced out sometimes and also feel hungry and have a dry mouth.
So far i have not experienced any negative side effects. A little bit of restlessness trying to sleep though. I have experienced good side effects which include calmness, and decrease of anxiety. I am very excited about this so far because when i tried effexor ( a common anti depressant ), i was nauseous and jittery within an a couple hours. After four days it was so bad i had to stop. I am very surprised (up to this day 2 point lol) with the outcome.
Even though anti depressants in general start of with negative side effects, it is important to remember a couple things. After a few weeks, the negativeness will turn into positive. Another thing is to mentally tell yourself that your excited and want to be better. With this attitude you will eliminate a lot of anxiety knowing that you as person are going to change. People who are anxious tend to be nervous about change, this will help.
Good luck everyone
