As some of you are aware i have a phobia of meds.
Anyway after my episode yesterday i went to my doctor and he said what i was expecting - without meds i cannot be helped.
He has given me propanol again to try, im so scared. Ive come to realise that without accepting my fears i cannot get the help i need.
I dont know what to do, i know as soon as i take my first pill i will panic and the meds will be fighting against my need to freak out im worried if my panic is stronger than the pills and something goes wrong.
Ive been started on 10mg.
Does anyone have a way i can do this, its not a phobia i can aviod anymore i want nothing more than to get better and feel 'normal' again.
Also has anyone had any side effects while using any dosage of propanol.
I will let you all know if i go ahead with it.
Any help will be appriciated so much. Thankyou.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I took meds (beta-blockers, busparone and diazepam) early on in my anxiety 'career' and they did little for me if not make me more anxious. I'm not saying they won't work for you, they might and many people find them effective. But there are many other non-med techinques which can be equally if not more effective.
So typical and arrogant of the medical profession to say only meds can help you. Meds can manage the symptoms but can't address the cause of anxiety.
My advice, try them if you can bear to you never know they may help. But don't dispair if you can't there's many other effective treatments that are far cheaper!
Take care hunnie ;)
My mother also has a phobia of meds. She won't even take aspirin, and I will tell you this................... her fear of taking meds all of her life is part of my problem today. She wouldn't take meds so living with her as a child was like walking on egg shells. She was a wreck.......... and I never knew which end was up with her.
So think of it like this. Try it and try to not focus on YOUR phobia, but look at it as helping those closest to you and your improved relationship with them.
Our "issues" do impact others and could be like a "snowball" effect. I agree with meow........... have someone near by your first few days. It will be security for you. And plan things to do your first week of taking it and hopefully that will help to take your mind off it.
Get the book "Atonement".......... my grown daughter is reading it and loving it. You want a book that is so good that you can't put it down............ you will be so engrossed in your book that the hours will pass and you'll realize later that you're doing fine after taking those first few pills.
Good luck!
Go here to read the editorials on it. All I know is she walks thru the house tripping over stuff because she can't stop reading:

Another great book (and it was also made into a movie and starred Opray Winfree) is BELOVED. Now even YOU would like that one!
The movie was great and then I read the book. The movie, the "ghost" looked alike like the icon picture you are using right now. Freaky lookin!!
