How do you calm your nerves?

Smoking, cleaning, binging then purging, reading. I recommend not doing the 3rd thing.

deep breathing helps when i have a panic attack. Doing something you like doing helps to calm your nerves as it calms you down and distracts you from the anxiety.

I always fix myself a nice cup of warm tea or cocoa..and wrap myself in a nice warm blanket..I either watch an uplifting movie or listen to some nice music..I also try to practice slow, deep breathing while doing this

Thats the million dollar question, i wish i had an easy answer mate. It isnt really one thing for me, sometimes i just curl up on my bed or on the couch and watch mind numbing tv, when i feel braver i go for a nice warm bath with a good book. Reading certainly is a good distraction though. Good luck xxx

I first start out with a breathing exercise but if that doesn't work I found that writing in a journal really helped. I start writing about how I'm feeling, when I started feeling it, what I was thinking about right before I started feeling anxious. Before i know it I'm not feeling anxious anymoe and i was able to get all of my emotions out. It also has ben helpful when I read my other entries I recognized a pattern of what was triggering anxiety. So once you know your triggers you can be more prepared to deal with the anxiety. I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps.
