In this day and age it is my belief that children don't play using there imagination anymore. There is every type of device made out there to engage your child from birth up.Even though my children have learning disabilities one of the pluses was they learned by playing with themselves and what was around them daily. They had know interest in puzzles[couldn't figure it out know matter how many times we did it]A.B.C,s 1.2.3,s know luck. But let them at my furniture, blankets, pots and pans. They would tire them selves out just setting up for a play time.Movies had to be meaningful to their way of thinking and you would explain the by by play to them and if it took, every time you watched you'd explain it until they started to explain it back to you .then they could relax and start looking for things you missed,Oh what fun we would have. Any way some children get very anxious when they can't function without that stimulation.I am a big fan of free play.
