Anger Management Support Group
Anger management commonly refers to therapeutic techniques by which someone with excessive or uncontrollable anger can control or reduce their emotions. Typical examples include the use of deep breathing and meditation as a means to relaxation. Psychologists recommend a balanced approach, which both controls the emotion and allows it to express itself in a healthy way.
is to yell and scream in my car. This didn't happen over night. I used to like to break things although I only ever hit someone once and it wasn't right.
My anger grew from not getting my needs met as a child and then anything that triggered that head space. So, take a look at what makes you angry. Often enough it doesn't necessarily resemble where it is attached to the past but then often it is obvious. Getting in touch with anger and the original source is a job and required much concentrated effort along with a willingness or a desire to change. I found working with/through anger means first that I must become responcible for my feelings. In that I have ot reach down deep and get in touch with stuff that is deeply embeded and must be dealt with. It is normal to experience anger. It is how we motivate and what we do with it that is our responcibility. Lots of times I want to be angry even though it is difficult...I will experience shame for my feelings...but not so much any more. I went to a councilor about 3 years ago and much has changed...a whole lot less anger and a whole lot more of knowing other feelings and tolerating them. None of this is easy but it is well worth the efforts to investigate further.
Second - short term - find a way (as PageO said) to let it out. I swam 3 times a week and raged up and down the pool.
Third - medium term - find out why you are so angry. Home, school, partner, sibling, ......?
Fourth -medium long term - look up borderline personality disorder on Google and see if anything comes up that you relate to.
Then - if it does resonate with you, you have some hard work to do. Because although you may be totally JUSTIFIED in being angry, it is your responsibility to find ways to manage it.
Look at my journal of 25.10.07 (the first) because I have uploaded an anger management plan that may help.
