Anemia Support Group
Anemia (or anaemia), which literally means "without blood," is a deficiency of red blood cells and/or hemoglobin. This results in a reduced ability of blood to transfer oxygen to the tissues, and this causes hypoxia; since all human cells depend on oxygen for survival, varying degrees of anemia can have a wide range of clinical consequences.

There isn't a community for this, so I thought I would ask here. My mom has AVM, Arterio Veinous Malformation, a birth defect where you have tangles of veins, capillaries and arteries. Most people don't know they have it, until they get older, and their vessels naturally become weaker. The vessels burst or leak and you lose blood faster than you can replace it, even with iron. Every three months or so, she gets a transfusion, when her hematocrit gets around 20. If you are a person who needs a transfusion, do you have your family donate the blood? If you have this disorder, or any advice it would be appreciated.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
AVMs are actually fairly common and if she has endoscopy or colonoscopy they should be able to make progress by zapping it...Dr O.
if there are hundreds it is certainly harder but they should have been able to see the ones that are actively bleeding..IF she becomes severely anemic again Id take her for a second opinion
