We need all the help we can get for options before my husband's dr convinces him amputation is the best way to go to eliminiate the pain and the bacteria growing on the rods in his leg. He was in bad auto accident 1/08 and as of 2/2/09 ct scan showed no healing in femur that was shattered in accident. Everything was going well with his therapy, he made tremendous progress as far as walking and rebuilding his strenght but 1st of Dec, 08, the bacteria reared its ugly head and became active. At first, drs thought it was superficial, but upon more cultures, bacteria was on metal and will remain there, either active or inactive, as long as metal in his leg. Bone graft not possible but before amputation, what else can we do as far as 2nd and 3rd opinions?
