I had a left AKA March 1, 2017 after having a bypass that blew out in November. The repair made me have no circulation to lower left leg. After spending two months in nursing home received my first prosthetic leg and started out patient PT in May. I am now able to walk 600 ft with walker. I have my second prosthetic leg with a locking switch on it I just started walking carefuly with one cane.
Therapy wants me to get second 4 prong cane . Both will be 500# weight canes as they are very sturdy. The reason for the second cane is because I have some arthritis in right wrist due to old fX. I also have poor balance.
We have split level house with 7 stairs then landing and 7 more stairs. MY husband thinks I should be walking without canes or walker by now and should be walking normally on stairs. The PT have said at my age of 77 I will probably always need walker or canes. He wanted to take away my W/C but need it when have leg off so i won that one. What do you all think.
Need some one to talk to. Are all of the emotions normal.
Hi everyone,I'm a university student conducting research on any social challenges people face when trying to re-adjust to life after an amputation. I'd be very appreciative of any experiences you'd be willing to share. Please let me know if you're open to chatting.
