Lack of sleep

I took my mom to the neurologist this morning and voiced my concerns about her wandering at night and other times just simply not sleeping, not even trying to change and go to bed. He prescribed a sleep aide. What I'm concerned about is that last month, same doctor, I told him the same thing and he said that he wasn't comfortable putting her on a sleeping pill, but now its okay? Has anyone gone through anything like this? Any advice?

Not exactly but have had problems with communications with previous doctors and when that happened I made changes pretty quickly. Being able to discuss problems and seek solutions is extremely important and if you feel for any reason this doctor isn't hearing you or giving what you have to say credibility then find a new one.
I'm glad he has put her on something to help her sleep. There are many elderly who have some variation of sundowners and if there are also dementia issues they can be dangerous to themselves and often others.
You, or whoever her primairy care giver is cannot be up 24/7 to watch her. She needs her sleep and so do you.

Sometime the lack of communication between Dr and family is very poor.. I write everything down and give my list to him.. We have not had any prob so far.. I do not have sleep issues with my mother.. But some of my patients that I have had in the past were on mild sleep aid.. It seemed to work with no adverse affects..As Georgia stated , the caregiver needs sleep.. I agree 100% Love D

i agree with the other two post. i got some sleep aid stuff from the doctor.but when she wakes up from it she can barely walk from the after affects. thank god for our portable potty. cause i could not carry her to the bathroom. not with my umbilical hernia.

    theatre and I are there already. I'm having a very berry tea with crackers, cheese and cherry tomatoes and she's having a joint with some beer and we're both on really comfy recliners on thick pile carpet. we need some help with the decor if anyone is around??

    I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
