Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I am an alcoholic and have not drank for just over a month now. After the inital withdrawl things have been going pretty good untill I agreed to go to a work night out last night. I felt I was ready for this although I have not spoken socially to anyone since I stopped, only at work and AA. I didn't have or realy tempted to have any alcohol but I was akward and introverted all evening. I started feeling awful as soon as I got home and this morning I am all tense, anxious and feel like my brain is pushing out in all directions.
I started taking campral a couple of days ago and I don't know if that has anything to do with it or the fact I didn 't take any last night or whether I am just not ready for socialising yet. I just don't know what to do to ride this out.

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
A bit of time down the line and some good AA behind me, I am a lot different now. There should be some good AA in your area too, I went to one or two meetings when I was up there.
You can find some good support here - and on the Alcoholics Anonymous group we set up on DS.
Hopefully soon (if you don't already) you will have a sponsor and get through the 12 Steps - you can get through that in a matter of weeks if you really want to start feeling the difference.
I took Antabuse years ago but it didn't stop me drinking and side effects were major with me, it made me seriously ill. Another thing was that when I did manage to stay off the pop I couldn't stay awake - which got a bit serious at work....
I haven't tried Campral though and I don't think that has any of those dangers as far as I have heard.
Stick with the alkies just for now, they will know where you are coming from.
Try and be glad that you have come so far without a drink - concentrate on the moment and avoid looking ahead as far as you can.

Maybe give it a little more time before placing yourself in a situation like that, the day will come when you have no problem with it, but for now..might wanna just stay away.
Good luck-hope you feel better.
