Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Just post on those threads that interest you or you think you can help, and you will attract friends. That's how to start....
Thanks for my welcome. I am looking forward to changing things in my life..little steps, of course!!
Through AA, I am learning a healthy balnce with everything. I believe recovery chat rooms can even be brnrficial if used as a supplement. (thumpers, I am speaking to newcomers relax)
The bottum line with drinking problems is the desire to quit has to be all that matters, period.
I started when there was a huge fight on the "computer".
I thought I was in heaven, a way to act out over the computer,,,,,Right on. I was
using dry chemicals and I was actually ready to drive to tenessee to fight!
Things have changed, people come and go. This is a place where you can take what you want and leave the rest..
Welcome, watch out for the shrink, he's also a pimp!!
From the Dr's opinion in the Alcholics Anonymous book
We believe, and so suggested a few years ago, that the action of alcohol on these chronic alcoholics is a manifestation of an allergy; that the phenomenon of craving is limited to this class and never occurs in the average temperate drinker. These allergic types can never safely use alcohol in any form at all; and once having formed the habit and found they cannot break it, once having lost their self-confidence, their reliance upon things human, their problems pile up on them and become astonishingly difficult to solve.
Frothy emotional appeal seldom suffices. The message which can interest and hold these alcoholic people must have depth and weight. In nearly all cases, their ideals must be grounded in a power greater than themselves, if they are to re-create their lives.
A couple pages of this is the place to start if you ask me!
You sound exactly where I was 11 months ago. It seemed everytime I turned around there was some social event going on. I would have never thought of NOT drinking and at that time 1 turned into 7. I had an incident which occured last June that hit me like a ton of bricks. I quit drinking for a long time and decided to challenge myself with going out and having water. Wow. What a concept huh? I was embarrased at first as friends wondered why! I even made up excuses for the why at first. Well... my confidence soared just knowing I could do it and have fun. I didn't have the lack of energy in the morning either. long story long.... lol.. I decided to put my feet back into the water. I do still drink but I have to conscioulsly stay on top of it... if I say I am only going to have 1 or 2. that is all I have. If I canot stick to this agreemet with myself I have to quit. I love this site and have made some buddies. I am intruiged with the dynamics of what makes one an alcoholic and why some people have issues but can still function. Anyway. If you really want to cut down just do it.... if you can't you may want to take an alcoholic evaluation... Best to you.... Welcome!
