Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Very interesting that this was brought up in another thread in the past 24 hours.
I was just at one of Canada's longest sober members of AA. His name is Jimmy O from London,Ontario and he just celebrated SIXTY YEARS of sobriety.
The speaker is a very well known speaker in Canada named Father Peter Waters.
Father is a past delegatte to New York and was a friend of one of the co-founders of AA- Bill W.
Father Waters was not always a Priest as he was not ordained until he was 54 yrs old and believe e you, he is a REAL ALCOHOLIC.
Rather said this about "the debate":
The collar that he wears is religous and all the rules and rituals that it represents are religous.
AA is a SPIRITUAL program based on : HONESTY / WILLINGNESS TO CHANGE/ OPEN MINDED TO BELIEVE / LOVING TO OTHERS/ AND TOLERANT OF ALL.
Now when a priest that is sober 46 years himself tells us that AA is spiritual and NOT religious, I think I will take him at face value. I have been blessed to have know Father Waters allof my sobriety as he was also a friend of my first sponsors..
He also CHALLENGED each and every AA in the hall tonight to "carry the message TO" the stil lsuffering alcoholic and not wait for them to come to us. Does this sound religous. NO
Father Waters is 80 years old now and has the energy and spirit of a 50 year old.
He says there is more spiritual beings in the basement of his church on wednesdays nights in Oakville Ontario than there are fighting for parking spots and in the parking lot is Sunday mornings.
This is a man with enough humility to say, because of AA he became a Priest and because he is a priest he knows His own God.
I am so blessed to have been at the birthday tonight to hear the sim plicity of his message and the Hope that AA still carries for the stil suffering alcoholic..
I am also challeneged by him to ask myself a similar question that JFK asked his country many many years ago...
" Ask now what my "AA" can do for me, but what I can DO for AA"
God bless

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
It took me 20 years to find my way back to church and sometimes it stifles the connection I have with God. But I love the community of my church as much as love my AA family
i simply shared a very moving talk from a well respected RECOVERED priest in the AA fellowship.
