Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I have a question for all of US(me included)...
Are we doing the newcomer any justice by counter quoting each other from the Big Book to have our own last word in...
OR could we all try this as two of us are tryin now >>
If, I or You, have an issue with some one else's response to a newcomer,, why not take the conversation private and live the spirit of the book as well as quote it.
I am speaking from my own experience here and am willing to "debate this" in PRIVATE if anyone has an issue with my posting here.
I am speaking from personal experience from another chat board and had to look up the term. "bleeding deacon"
Here is a quote my sponsor gave me recently to consider from the chapter Working with Others >>
"We are careful never to show intolerance or hatred of drinking as an institution. Experience shows that such an attitude is not helpful to anyone. Every new alcoholic looks for this spirit among us and is immensely relieved when he finds we are not witch burners. A spirit of intolerance might repel alcoholics whose lives could have been saved, had it not been for such stupidity. We would not even do the cause of temperate drinking any good, for not one drinker in a thousand likes to be told anything about alcohol by one who hates it. Some day we hope that Alcoholics Anonymous will help the public to a better realization of the gravity of the alcoholic problem, but we shall be of little use if our attitude is one of bitterness or hostility. Drinkers will not stand for it. After all, our problems were of our own making. Bottles were only a symbol. Besides, we have stopped fighting anybody or anything. We have to!"

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I may have forgotten this is not AA.
God Bless you all..
I shall watch myself more carefully.
Thanks for posting, Botbotcoco!
P.S. I just wanted to mention DS has chat now so....perhaps certain members can stop using the message board as a chat board.
That is why I go to meetings...
This is ds not A.A. and I know that...
My solution comes from A.A. and that is what I have to offer here... I am not an authority on how to stop drinking. I just know how I did it. Some people aren't here for the message though. Hopefully they can find a way that works for them.. :)
It seems my character defects show up where i least expect. Thanks for the post!
peace,

anyway...as for the post...i have also been in meanings that have turned into big book debates. i think its useless. i know for me personally, when i was new to aa whatever anyone said about the book or whatever right straight over my head anyway. what i learned from the most was those people who got out of the book and told me about their experience, strength, and hope. they told me about themselves. if someone continuously quotes the big book...i learn nothing them as a person aside from the fact that they have a good memory. i do my work learning the big book in big book studies, step meetings, and of course...with my sponsor.
just my opinion...
I clicked from someones profile page to get here and it put me on page 2 and so I didn't see anything but the last 2 posts....lol...sorry....my bad!!!!
Oh, I crack me up sometimes! loololollo
I do it, sure, but only because I am so pationate about people like me, and I want them to have what I have... A new freedom that I want to share, A stronger relationship with my maker, A new way to live without alcohol, A new hope!
But if it's shoved, rather than suggested, then I am not helping anyone!
