Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Hi - I want to go to an AA meeting but my life is bereft of "God" a "Superior Being" and therefore I am worried that I will not relate. I try to pray, out loud, "I feel a fool" in my head "no feeling of connection" (not that I have any when I "pray" outloud.
I so WANT to connect but try as I may I can't - anyone out ther who has felt the same, and changed and can explain toan idiot how ?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Being void of a higher power does not mean you can't get sober.Keeping an open mind to a new way of thinking can help.Admittibg that you are an alcoholic and that your life is unmanageable is all the first step requires. The traditions tell us that all you need is a desire to quit drinking. So my friend contempt prior to investigation should not be reason enough to keep you from a meeting.Take the body to a meeting. The mind will follow.Changing the way we live and the way we think is no small order. In order to change the way we think(alcoholically)we need to change the things we do.(soberly).Welcome to AA.We care if you stay sober no matter how you decide to do it. I don't go to Church but I go to the AA, your higher power need not be God but God as you see him.
You may find God during your journey, or you may begin to feel that someone is looking after you and forgiven.
Go to a meeting with an open mind, all you need is a desire not to drink, please don't let God stand in your way as I am sure he would not want that.
Keep an open mind, that is what I was told to do.
And don't use God as an excuse for not maintaining your sobriety
Good Luck

My "higher power" was the group at first because they were a power greater than me! I was powerless!
I do go to church and do rely heavily on God now, but I don't judge or criticize people that don't. Everyone's got to find their own way and everyone's got to be a volunteer for anything worthwhile in this life. That's my own opinion. Don't let your questions about God stop you from attending AA. If you're an alcoholic like I was, it could mean the difference between life and death! Good luck, and let me know anyway I can help.
