First let me say that I view alcoholism as a selfish response to life's circumstances, and not necessarily a result of one's selfish nature. I also don't see it as a result of insanity or a chronic didease. It's a very bad compulsive habit resulting from making very bad choices. In light of this, there are social and political implications which can't be ignored. Why is there a higher rate of addiction in lower income and minority communities? Obviously, the temptation to make these bad choices is greater when your options in life are less appealing. That's why I believe that social action to change one's circumstances can be part of a healthy recovery program. What better incentive can a person have to stay sober than to take action to make life better for oneself and others? I know that I got more involved with issues of social justice when I sobered up. I realized that complaining didn't change things, and that being proactive, in both a personal and social sense, gave me a more meaningful life; and without that it would be a really hard struggle to stay sober. So I don't believe it matters so much what cause you promote as long as it allows you to reach beyond your selfish desire to get drunk and as long as it gives your life a sense of purpose.

I miss traveling with my husband. Has anyone found a specific site regarding cruising for widow/widowers or any sightseeing trips. Not interested in being with couples and kids,,,I realize a cruise ship will have a portion size of families and couples, but perhaps they also put together a part of the cruise ship for groups of widows/widowers????
