Alcohol Recovery Without 12 Steps Community Group
This group was created to explore various recovery paths for Alcoholism. We generally chose to explore paths outside of the AA model, or ones which incorporate, but are not limited to AA. Anyone wanting to learn and explore how to become free from alcohol addiction are welcome. Our main goal is to support each other with compassion and decency, while remaining open minded...
Some people here use AA and other programs, Mel. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Use as many tools as you can find. There are other recovery websites listed in a post here too. There are a ton of them. Most people, I think, in the beginning anyway, need the face to face contact of AA or another in-person group.
I saw a therapist for a while and still go back when I need to. Maybe that's why I didn't need the face to face of AA. I don't know - everyone is different. You seem to really be struggling, so I hate to see you walk away from AA. You can, however, add other things to "your program" along with AA.
I also have huge family support - so if I'm needing some face to face - I have four sisters I can call or three of them I can drive 2 miles and see them face to face! One lives in Arizona.
When I discovered S.M.A.R.T (self management alcohol recovery training)- it was about the same time I found DS. I had already been sober a month.
I don't visit the website that often anymore, but what I did do is print out the entire toolbox. I have it in a notebook. There are exercises in there that just get me to thinking and I incorporate it into my personal journaling.
