In making amends I acknowledge that I'm not perfect even though I've tried to be. Ego says I'm better than others when in reality I'm not. Hard to swallow that realization.
Being honest is accepting the truth about myself and my situations with people.
Again humility plays a big part in making amends. Admitting I'm not always the innocent victim in the situations.
We are having our Group Inventory meeting tomorrow night, an annual event. I love the honesty and humility at those meetings, and hope this one goes as well as the others have as I learn a lot and feel at peace. Some years we have a lot to hash out, but I don't think there are any burning issues this year.........
As for Step 9 helping me make amends: Dysfunctional/abusive/addictive households don't bounce around the phrase I'm Sorry a lot. It actually takes practice to begin to use that phrase with the proper humility. If amends calls for more than a verbal amends, it can be a source of peace to perform that act.
